Train 169 is one of the oldest and slowest trains in service on the Bangkok to Surat Thani route. This said, the train does has 2nd class air-conditioned and fan sleeper carriages giving those passengers who have booked these seats in advance a comfortable journey.
The train is scheduled to arrive at 03.45, although it generally arrives 30 to 60 minutes after the scheduled time. The first direct transport from Surat Thani train station to Koh Samui departs at 07.00. For Koh Phangan the first combined bus and boat service from Thani also departs at 07.00. For Koh Tao there is a daily direct service from Surat Thani train station at 08.30.
